WWWBoard?

Anyone set up Matt Wright's nifty WWWBoard (I love this fellow!)
I'm having a devil of a time, especially as formail is running successfully
in same web directory?!!
path to perl is correct
permissions checked and re-checked
$basedir and $baseurl are correct
error_log egrepped...nothing
500 returns ..seems to die in subroutine Open NEWFILE, when writing 
to messages subdirectory ..suggestions?! Poured through DejaNews, etc..
mention of Apache/FP extensions conflicts affecting cgi would seem
to be ruled out as I have formail going?! Thanks (Oh, tried suid too..
no go.)
