ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION AVAILABILITY
Louisiana State University Libraries

(1)  TITLE:     Government Documents/Microforms Coordinator

Louisiana State University Libraries seeks an energetic and committed
librarian to manage and direct the activities of the Government
Documents/Microforms collections and services at the LSU Libraries,
Louisiana State University. This is a tenure track position which reports
to the Head, Reference Services. The individual in this position serves as
the Regional Librarian for the Federal Depository Library Program.
Responsibilities: supervises the daily operations of the Regional
Depository and the Microforms collections, including supervision of
technical processing of government documents, collection development and
maintenance, online circulation, and administration of the NRC Public
Documents Reading Room;  plans and implements programs and services that
increase awareness and use of the collections and of government
information including maintenance of the Libraries' Federal Agency Web
Page and GPO Access Page; establishes and implements policies and
procedures for the Documents/Microforms area;  serves as a resource
specialist, providing both in-depth reference/research assistance and
instruction related to U.S. and UN information sources and services;
shares responsibilities for Selective Libraries with other Regional
Depository in the state and is responsible for ensuring that the library
meets its obligations to the Federal Depository Library Program;  as a
member of the reference team, provides reference assistance at a combined
general reference/government documents desk and participates in planning
and implementation of activities for Reference Services ( may work
evenings and weekends in rotation with other reference librarians); under
the
supervision of the Head of Collection Development/Management, may serve as
Selector and Liaison for one or more subject areas; works to meet
tenure/promotion requirements.  Documents/Microforms staff includes 4
full-time para-professionals, approximately 4 fte student assistants, and
one .5 fte graduate assistant.  The library has been a depository for
Federal documents since 1907 and a regional since 1964.  The GPO/MARCIVE
tapes were loaded in 1989 and all check-in is automated.  The documents
collection also includes an extensive collection of United Nations
documents.  Required qualifications: ALA accredited MLS, 2 years
experience with government information; reference experience in an
academic setting;  knowledge of, and experience with, electronic
information sources including CD-ROM and Internet; knowledge of
microcomputer applications; ability to create Web documents;  ability to
work well with colleagues and diverse clientele; excellent oral and
written communication skills; demonstrated ability to meet requirements
for tenure and promotion.  Preferred qualifications:  instruction
experience with government information; experience with NOTIS online
catalog system and with MARCIVE/GPO catalog records. Salary Commensurate
with qualifications and experience;  $30,000 minimum.  Send letter of

(2)  Electronic Reference Services/Web Development Coordinator

Reports to the Head, Reference Services; responsible for coordinating,
planning, and providing technical expertise for electronic reference
services and technology projects and oversees development and maintenance
of the library's Web gateway.  Assists in the selection, maintenance, and
marketing of electronic resources for the Libraries' general and
government documents collections; provides staff and user training for
technological applications; coordinates the acquisition of e-journals for
the Collection Development/Management team; serves as leader for the
Electronic Reference Services Group; and supervises support staff assigned
to work with electronic reference services.  As a member of the reference
team, participates in all areas of the Reference program, including
reference desk assistance, library instruction activities, and development
of policies and procedures for the department. Responsible for collection
development/liaison for one or more subject areas. Works to meet tenure
and promotion requirements.  Qualifications: Required: ALA-accredited MLS;
experience with electronic information sources in a variety of platforms;
a working knowledge of electronic information sources and services,
including CD-ROM products, online services, and Web based products;
knowledge of HTML and experience in the development of World Wide Web
resources;  demonstrated ability to work with technical aspects of
computer software and hardware; ability to teach new technologies; self-
directed learning style and willingness to learn new technologies;
demonstrated competence in personnel management and leadership ability;
excellent communication skills; and ability to work effectively in a an
academic library environment and to meet the requirements for tenure and
promotion in a faculty position. Preferred: Experience as a reference
librarian in an academic library, and teaching experience. Academic
background or experience in the life or physical sciences. Supervisory
experience.

Salary: Negotiable, commensurate with qualifications and experience;
