CHOICE Seeks Volunteers for Beta Test of New Web Review Service
CHOICE: Current Reviews for Academic Libraries is seeking qualified
volunteers to assist in evaluating a service that will make its
reviews of academic and research publications available via the World
Wide Web.
Those chosen to participate in the test will have free, unlimited
access to a Web site containing all Choice reviews published since
1988 for the duration of the test. The Choice database consists of
some 60,000 reviews, to which approximately 600 new reviews are added
each month. Participants will also receive a monthly e-mail notice of
new titles in their areas of interest.
In return, they will be asked to provide feedback during the test and
to respond to up to three (3) user surveys prepared by Choice. The
duration of the test will be six (6) months. The target start date is
approximately December 1, 1997.
Participation in the Choice beta test will be limited to 100 libraries
with a maximum of three (3) individual participants at each site.
Choice's objective is to recruit a geographically balanced mix of
participants representing all major academic (community college,
college, university) and other research libraries. Those chosen will
also represent a range of institutional sizes. Preference will be given
to current Choice subscribers.
All participants must have ready Internet access and at least a basic
familiarity with database searching and the Internet. Teaching faculty
who are involved with selection of library materials are eligible but
must be counted against the maximum limit of three individuals per
site.
Please request an application form from Pam Marino, 860-347-6933 x28
or pmarino at ala-choice.org.
Applications must be submitted on or before November 15, 1997. Site
selections will be announced before the project start date, and all
applicants will be notified of their status.
Published by the Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL), a
division of the American Library Association (ALA), Choice is one of
the academic library community's most widely used review sources.
Since 1964, Choice magazine and Choice Reviews on Cards have been
standard academic library collection development tools.
