User Verification

At our Library, we are looking for software that would help us to verify users
before running an application on a _stand alone_ PC.  Basically, we want to
have students and staff in our library be prompted for name, user id# or both 
before using a particular application.  

Since we don't have the ability to do user verification over a Library LAN at
the current time, we are simply looking to do this on one PC right now.
