Hello From Online Educator,

Here are the five Education Super Sites for the week of May 3,1997 from The
Online Educator, creators of "Point, Click and Teach.".

1. SCIENCE

Turn your students onto science with the help of NATIONAL PUBLIC RADIO'S
SCIENCE FRIDAY KIDS CONNECTION.

Science can be fun and exciting when it's presented correctly and the folks
at National Public Radio certainly know how to do that. Send your kids to
this site every week to check out the latest topic being discussed. The site
also includes a nice archive of previous shows, including a list of science
projects and experiments designed to be done during summer vacation.

2. LITERATURE/LANGUAGE

Help your students develop good research skills while avoiding problems with
AVOIDING PLAGIARISM.

Most students don't mean to plagiarize when they write reports. The
unintentional copying of another's work generally occurs during the
note-taking stage of the research process. You can help your students avoid
that pitfall by sharing this thoughtful essay with them.

3. ALL CATEGORIES

Give your students extra help outside the classroom with HP E-MAIL MENTOR
PROGRAM.

Every year, Hewlett Packard employees from around the world mentor students
from grades 5-12. The employees establish a one-on-one e-mail relationship
with the students, offering both academic and personal tips, help and
advice. This year H-P hopes to connect employees with 2,000 students across
the U.S. If you'd like your kids to be part of this free program during the
next school year, you need to visit the H-P Web site and apply before
July 1.

4. TOOLS FOR TEACHERS

Learn how to become an educational software expert in three minutes flat
with the help of AINSWORTH & PARTNERS.

The market is flooded with educational software programs and packages. How
can you tell the good stuff from the bad? Take a few moments to read this
simple, yet provocative essay. It will help you separate the "goodware" from
the "badware" before it ever gets near your students.

5. ALL CATEGORIES

See how students can teach students with STUDENT-CREATED SOFTWARE from
Rockburn School in Maryland.

The gifted and talented students at Rockburn Elementary School in Howard
County, Maryland, have created a variety of software packages that teach
everything from math to history and writing. The software packages are
designed to only run on Macintosh computers, so PC users need not apply.
Your kids will not only learn using these programs, they may also be
motivated to create their own software.
