Storing a Novell username during an NT login

I am currently engaged in an electronic library project in the UK
which is running under Windows NT4.0 using Microsoft Internet
Information Server as the webserver.

All users here logon initially to the university Novell network.
Those who wish to use the electronic library then use a web
browser to enter our Electronic Library on the NT server where they
are logged in as anonymous users (the admin burden would be too high
to register them all on the NT server and we are also trying to avoid
the necessity for second manual login).

The problem we have is that the anonymous login gives us no
information about the individual, and we would like to collect
statistical information about who uses which documents. We know which
documents are accessed by using statistics collected by IIS.

Does anyone know how we can log/store the Novell username of each
user as they are logged onto the NT server *and* as they
access each document? We don't need passwords, just usernames for
statistical purposes.

I will summarise replies to the list.
