Fortres' Software

I'll try to keep this brief as I just joined the list this
morning.
We use Fortres software on our public Internet terminals.
I'm told by Fortres that the software takes care of the
shutdown functions of Windows. We use Windows 95 Dells, and
the only curiosity we have is that Windows runs a Scandisk
session upon restarting. Note that Scandisk will run
automatically after 60 seconds, so I just have our
librarians turn 'em on at the power bar and walk away to
take care of other opening functions.
I haven't tested it yet, but I believe the new upgrade for
Fortres (version 2.51d) will allow you to access the
shutdown dialogue box without disabling the security.
Note also that we have dedicated T-1 internet connections in
our libraries, so we don't generally have patrons trying to
shut down computers. The biggest problem I've had is people
entering a system password, which I've solved by cracking
open all our PC's and changing the jumpers so that the
system setup & password functions aren't accessible.
On another note, I'm trying to figure out how to allow
patrons to telnet to our catalogue, but still block our
hackers from getting all over the place, but without putting
in a firewall. I'm thinking about a separate icon to
autodial into our telnet session, and locking off the other
functions of telnet with something like Ikiosk. Any ideas?
