children accessing porn; adults turning off filterware

I don't think in general that filtering in public libraries is a
violation of the First Amendment. It may be stupid by some measures,
and you can bet that it will frequently be done in a heavy-handed,
headline-seeking way. But the lack of elegance does not raise the
matter to a Constitutional issue. No one is being prevented from
posting material by filters, and no adult outside of the library is
being prevented from having access. It's a political battle more than a
Constitutional one. It's one that needs to be fought because there are
so many sides to it - and some general resolution should be reached.
The process is never very pretty and is not often logical. I will say,
Mark, that you're the only person so far that has made a case that was
at least somewhere near the original thread.
