Don't blame the software for hardware or network config deficiencies.
Lynx is routinely the fastest browser I can find. You can do a
head-to-head comparison with the Win32 version of Lynx and any Win32
graphical browser.  Opera is probably the second fastest I've got.

[Standard caveat: if you aren't running a current version, get on the
stick.]
