                        TECHNOLOGY MANAGER 
                     RADFORD UNIVERSITY LIBRARY
                         RADFORD, VIRGINIA

Reports to and assists Assistant University Librarian for Systems in
designing and implementing plans to improve library services to the
Radford University community through use of technology.  Provides
leadership in strategic planning and in evaluating and recommending
services, products and projects.  Prepares proposals for new projects
and upgrades.  Provides assistance and instruction for library staff  in
using various systems and tools for improving productivity and
services.  Develops workshops, online tutorials and demonstration
products and provides training and instruction to students, faculty
and staff in the use of networked information resources.  Supervises
and/or performs installation and configuration of new hardware and
software and resolves software, hardware, and network problems as
needed.  Participates in planning and implementing library services
for extended campus and distance learning programs.  Assists
Information Technology staff, Assistant University Librarian for
Systems, and library department coordinators in the management of
various systems including the library's CD-ROM LAN, OCLC
applications, INNOPAC and others.  Assists with maintenance and
enhancements of the library's web pages.  Serves as library liaison for
collection development to an academic department and on library and
campus committees as need and interest suggest.

The library currently makes wide use of computer systems for
services delivery.  INNOPAC is used for the library catalog,
circulation, reserves, serials control, acquisitions, materials booking,
newspaper index, and Z39.50 client and server.  OCLC is used for
cataloging and interlibrary loan.  The library currently maintains over
150 workstations, including a library classroom of 21 networked
pentium computers equipped with Comweb switching and other
instructional devices.  A SPARCclassic/Logicraft system supports the
library's networked CD-ROM databases, which are also accessible
from user accounts on the university's UNIX hosts.   For more

Radford University is a comprehensive, co-educational state
institution with an enrollment of about 8,300 students, offering
bachelor's, master's and educational specialist's degrees.  The campus
is located near the Blue Ridge Mountains, 40 miles southwest of
Roanoke, VA. 

QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in Library Science from a
program accredited by the American Library Association.  Extensive
knowledge of and experience with computer networks, automated
library systems, UNIX, NT, Win95, MS-Windows, DOS, HTML,
CGI, JAVA, demonstration software, multimedia applications and a
variety of office and Internet applications.  Demonstrated skills in
teaching and training. Strong evidence of interest and ability in
applying innovative technologies to enhance library services. 
Demonstrated ability to prepare successful grant proposals for
technology projects.  Experience in intranet design and management
highly desirable.

SALARY: $34,000-$37,500, dependent upon qualifications and
experience.  Twelve month non-tenured administrative faculty
position.  Comprehensive benefits, several retirement options
including TIAA-CREF, 11 paid holidays and 18 days vacation for
