POSITION:
Library Systems Head

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coordinates and directs the daily activities of the Library Systems and
Machine Services Units. Plans and analyzes the Library's information
technology, including evaluating current systems and making recommendations
for future systems. Directs and supervises the work of both the systems and
machine services units in installing, maintaining, documenting and
trouble-shooting library systems. Serves as chair person for Library
committees related to information technology. Acts as a liaison to vendors
of information technology systems, CSU Division of instructional Resources
and Technology and various campus units. Maintains all aspects of
information technology relevant to the library environment and other duties
as assigned. Reports to the University Librarian.
REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge and skills in applications programming and systems and related
programming support functions which would normally be obtained through a
bachelor's degree in computer science or MIS. Knowledge of history and
trends in library information technology systems; ability to design,
communicate and implement large-scale technology projects. Knowledge of
Library OPAC, WWW, CD-ROM and file/print servers. Knowledge of relevant
print and online resources in Library and Information Technology. Excellent
communication skills and ability to communicate effectively complex
information, both orally and in writing, to a variety of audiences.
Demonstrated leadership and management skills, supervisory skills, and
analytical skills. Ability to work effectively in a demanding and rapidly
changing environment. Ability to be flexible and to demonstrate initiative
in problem-solving. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work
productively with individuals/groups of varying levels of technical
expertise.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Five years experience working in a systems environment. Knowledge of
Library, campus, CSU organization and procedures.
SALARY:
$4667 per month.

Ten days paid vacation per year, one day per month sick leave accumulative;

THE UNIVERSITY:
California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) is one of 22 campuses which
comprise the California State University. The University offers
baccalaureate degrees in 51 fields of knowledge, credential programs for
teachers, and graduate (masters level) work in 44 programs. The Library
serves approximately 2,000 faculty and staff as well as 22,000 students
enrolled in academic programs.
THE LIBRARY:
The University Library contains approximately 765,000 books and 2500
current periodical subscriptions; state, federal, and international
documents, and other printed materials. Holdings also include microformats,
audiovisual materials, and a rapidly increasing number of electronic
resources. The Library uses the INNOPAC integrated library system, a NOVELL
local area network, and is a participant in the CSU system-wide
procurement of a web-based UIAS (Universal Information Access System).
Library Staff includes 20 librarians and 40 paraprofessionals, plus
approximately 150 student assistants. The CSU has been under collective
bargaining agreements since 1982.
