The following Press Release may be of interest to your
California WEB4LIB Listserv subscribers. Folks might enjoy
the downloadable clipart and text files for the web & print
located in the 'Tips & Tools for Librarians & Educators'
department, see table of contents 'Resources', or just plain
link to certain departments such as 'Tips for Parents',
'Advocacy' etc.

But most important, if anyone is doing anything on their local
library www site we would appreciate knowing so we can link
for the upcomming 'Gallery of Ideas' a kind of Show and Tell
Section or how I used it.
Also, anyone have a any 'wish list' item/items they need in
resources --artwork etc. (yes the 'text version' homepage
is in progress) just let us know. The site will continue to grow.

Thanks,

CALIFORNIA LIBRARY ADVOCATES ANNOUNCE STATEWIDE
ACTIVITIES TO PROMOTE NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK APRIL 13-19

"Kids Connect @ California Libraries"
http://www.calibraries.org/kidsconnect/

For the first time, California library leaders and advocates representing
the state's largest library groups are teaming up to promote National Library
Week, April 13-19. "Kids Connect @ California Libraries" is the statewide,
umbrella theme under which the library leadership groups are encouraging
local public and school libraries, as well as academic and special libraries,
to collaborate.
Plans underway include an official proclamation presentation on the Capitol
steps in Sacramento on Thursday, April 10. State Librarian Kevin Starr will
invite Governor Wilson to personally present the proclamation.
In addition, the groups have created a "Kids Connect" website
(http://www.calibraries.org/kidsconnect/), underwritten by Citibank, with web
development by Stephanie Stokes Design of San Francisco. This site will
inform librarians, parents and kids about activities at all types of
libraries -- public, school, academic or special libraries during and beyond
National Library Week. The website includes tips and tools for librarians; a
series of linked resources and elements of interest to children; as well as
material on library advocacy and ideas for parents on getting their kids
involved in libraries and literacy.
The American Library Association (ALA) applauds California's "Kids Connect"
efforts, which build upon the ALA's national theme "Kids Connect @ the
Library." The California campaign extends this message to promote kids
connecting at libraries of all types -- their school library, local public
library, college or university library, or special library.
Groups collaborating on the "Kids Connect @ California Libraries" campaign
include the California Library Association, California School Library
Association, California State Library, California Department of Education,
FRIENDS of California Libraries, California Association of Trustees and
Commissioners and Pacific Bell. The Oakland Public Library also serves on
the planning team.
