Reference Librarian

Environment:  The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory is
the nation's largest  university affiliated research center conducting
advanced research and development  programs for the Navy,  NASA, the
Departments of Defense,  Energy and Transportation,  the National
Institutes of Health, and other Federal, state, and local agencies.  The
Laboratory is located on a 365 acre site halfway between Baltimore,
Maryland and Washington, D.C. 

The R. E. Gibson Library and Information Center supports the scientific,
technical and management information needs of the Laboratory.  The
Center develops and maintains a number of Intranet products and services
 using WWW technologies.  The Center manages its own UNIX, Windows NT,
and Macintosh database, WWW and CD-ROM  network servers to deliver
electronic information products to our clients' workstations.  Center
staff work closely with clients, both individuals and technical teams,
to distill and analyze information and to provide expertise in the
organization of information to facilitate project and program study
teams.

Responsibilities:  Provide training, consultation and tools to assist
clients in navigating through digital information resources, and provide
products and tools that filter, distill and organize information
obtained from these resources.  Support technical teams by identifying,
distilling and conveying research, technical and business information
related to particular projects.  Serves as a member of a team of
information professionals planning, developing and promoting electronic
information sources and services.

Qualifications:  Master of Library Science degree or a comparable
graduate level information science related degree.  Must be team
oriented, flexible, and able to work both independently and
collaboratively with other information professionals as well as
scientists and engineers in a complex, changing environment.  A U.S.
citizenship is required.

Preferred:  Candidates with undergraduate degrees or second graduate
level degrees in computer science, engineering or the physical sciences.
