JOB ANNOUNCEMENT - INFORMATION SYSTEMS SPECIALIST

We invite application for the position of Information
Systems Specialist. Reporting to the Chief of the Library and
the Coordinator of the Electronic Communications Project, this
specialist will provide leadership and vision for the
development of the electronic information/communication system of
the Library and of the Electronic Communications Project of PAHO.
Will also serve as liason with the Computer Services staff.
The Library has a CD-ROM based access, LAN/Novell
software and is ready to implement a text-based database
using MICROSOFT ACCESS and FolioViews. The bibliographic
database uses MICROISIS (C language). Possible implementation of
OCLC and an integrated library system is foreseen in the near
future.
The Electronic Communications Project is presently
developing the PAHO Home Page (http://www.paho.org). To this
respect, the post also involves providing access through INTERNET of
the CD-ROMS prepared internally, and handling WEB applications.
QUALIFICATIONS:
University Degree in Computer Science, Library Science,
Management, Liberal Arts or a field related to the
management of electronic information systems. Strong background on
library networking, including text-based applications and
INTERNET/Gopher applications. Experience in the
maintenance/conversion of records to and from MICROISIS and MARC,
knowledge of C-ISIS language , FolioVIEWS and MICROSOFT ACCESS
would be an asset. Knowledge and experience with DOS, WINDOWS and
UNIX operating sytems. Experience with WEB browsers and HTML.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills , flexibility to
work in an international environment. Very good knowlege
of English and Spanish is required.
