                                           INFORMATION ARCHITECT

The Connecticut State Library is now accepting applications for the position of Information Architect for the Connecticut Library Network (CLN).  This new position is responsible for managing the statewide bibliographic database project with a long-term job focus on recommending and implementing solutions that make widely dispersed networked information resources of all types more accessible and more visible to information users.

The Connecticut Library Network, mandated by Public Act 95-234, will provide statewide access through the World Wide Web to the statewide bibliographic database, network-wide interlibrary loan services, commercial databases, and advanced information search services.  The network is intended to ensure that all citizens of Connecticut have equitable access to information through the libraries they regularly use.

The Information Architect will evaluate for acceptance all vendor production work on the statewide bibliographic database, ensure vendor compliance with contractual (RFP) requirements for union catalog processing, public access search engine and cataloging modules; ensure integrity and quality control of database and efficiency and effectiveness of database updating procedures.  Related duties include: plans and coordinates with vendor and data providers the migration of the database from a centralized to a distributed environment; plans and coordinates training of library staff; performs ongoing system administration/network support duties; and identifies, assesses and positions new technologies plus other duties as required.

Qualifications:  A Masters Degree in Library Science or Information Science from an ALA-accredited library school, or a Masters Degree in a field closely related to information technology and three (3) years post-graduate professional employment in a library systems environment.  Applicants must possess considerable knowledge of MARC record structure and the processes (online and batch) used to produce and update large MARC-based union catalogs derived from widely diverse record sources; considerable knowledge of or ability to learn the technical requirements for conducting information searches in a distributed environment consisting of heterogeneous, independently managed systems and diverse data/media types.  Required skills and abilities include:  ability to manage projects; considerable interpersonal/customer service skills and oral and written communication skills; ability to translate project/application requirements into technical specifications; ability to analyze and solve complex problems creatively; ability to use desktop applications such as MS Word, Excel, Web browser, e-mail, and information search tools in a Windows 95/internet environment.  Preferred:  knowledge of information technology industry; project management experience.  Starting salary $47,838 with annual increases to $57,998 plus fringe benefit package.  Travel required.

                         INFORMATION TRANSACTION COORDINATOR

The Connecticut State Library is now accepting applications for the position of Information Transaction Coordinator for the Connecticut Library Network (CLN).  This new position is responsible for developing and managing the statewide interlibrary loan system (ILL) with a long-term job focus on recommending and implementing solutions that will enable information transactions between information suppliers and information clients to be successfully completed in a widely dispersed networked environment.

The Connecticut Library Network, mandated by Public Act 95-234, will provide statewide access through the World Wide Web to the statewide bibliographic database, network-wide interlibrary loan services, commercial databases, and advanced information search services.  The network is intended to ensure that all citizens of Connecticut have equitable access to information through the libraries they regularly use.

The Information Transaction Coordinator will ensure vendor compliance with contractual requirements for the ILL module; administer acceptance testing and manage requirements definition and vendor development of authentication mechanisms and CLN Institutional Database.  Related duties include:  performs ongoing system administration functions, identifies, assesses and positions new technologies and methods and plans and coordinates training for participating library ILL staff; plus other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:  A Masters Degree in Library Science or Information Science from an ALA-accredited library school, or a Masters Degree in a field closely related to information technology and three (3) years post-graduate professional employment in a library systems environment.
