ALA midwinter discussion

The LAMA Education Committee will host an open discussion on the subject

"What the New Library Administrator Needs to Know" at the ALA Midwinter
Meeting in New Orleans.

The discussion will be on Monday, January 12, 1998,
from 9:30 to 11:00 AM, at Hotel Le Meridien (MER),
in the "Ile de France" Ballroom III.

Proposed topics for discussion include:

*Understanding the role of your position in the library's culture
*Developing information networks inside and outside the library
*Leading vs. managing
*Making your expectations clear-- and empowering staff to meet them
*Dealing with entrenched and uncooperative staff
*Special challenges for the "inside" appointee
*Understanding the budget cycle and structure
*The role of the library in the culture of your institution

The discussion will be moderated by members of the LAMA Education
Committee.
