ARCHIVIST II - WEB MASTER / Archives-Library Division
Contract Position (24,895-30,430 annual wage, with excellent benefits)
NATURE OF WORK IN THIS CLASS
This is a professional position in the Archives Library Division
supported by state capital funds being made available for library
automation. This is a one year contract position available for two years.
The Web Master provides technical advice and assistance to OHS personnel
on the creation and upkeep of information presented on the World Wide
Web. The Web Master manages the Ohio Historical Society World Wide Web
site and assists state agency personnel and the GILS Archivist on making
electronic records available on the World Wide Web. The Web Master will
also work with the Electronic Records Archivist on the presentation and
implementation of the functional requirements of record keeping to state
agency personnel.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK
Provides technical advice and assistance to OHS personnel on the creation
and upkeep of information presented on the World Wide Web. Manages the
OHS World Wide Web site. Assists state agency personnel and GILS
Archivist in making electronic records available on the World Wide Web.
Presentation and implementation of functional requirements of record
keeping. Contribute to or participate in appropriate professional
publications, seminars, or conferences; perform other duties as assigned
for the efficient operation of the State Archives or the Archives Library.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS
The Web Master must possess detailed knowledge of World Wide Web
applications, and working knowledge of American and Ohio history, and
records management procedures. The Web Master must be able to supervise
non-professional personnel and projects, pay attention to detail while
completing repetitive tasks and to carry out complex written and oral
instructions. The Web Master must be able to promptly report problems to
superiors, manage time effectively, and to work well independently.
QUALIFICATIONS
Masters degree in history, library science or related field; detailed
knowledge of Windows NT server, Windows NT workstation, Windows 95 and
the Internet. Working knowledge of HTML, SGML, word processing, spread
sheet, and database applications. Knowledge of the functional
requirements of record keeping, UNIX systems; and programming languages
including VisualBasic, PERL, CGI, and/or API. Two years at a professional
level working with GILS, electronic records or the World Wide Web;
graduate intern experience may substitute for one year experience.

SYSTEM MANAGER / Archives-Library Division
$28,600 - $35,200 annual wage, with excellent benefits
NATURE OF WORK IN THIS CLASS
The Archives Library Division System Manager will be responsible for
managing, planning, and coordinating all activities related to computer
hardware, software and networks in the Archives/Library.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK
Manage operation of the division's integrated library system. Assist
staff in the evaluation and selection of electronic resources and with
the installation and operations of these technologies. Recommend policies
for automation/technology. Maintain direct relationship with OPLIN and
the State Library of Ohio, and work with OPLIN and SLO staff, as
directed, on joint projects and initiatives. Assist the Electronic
Records Archivist with the Ohio Electronic Records Archives program.
Chair the division's Automation/Technology Committee. Coordinate
external funding efforts for automation and technology. Keep accurate and
complete records of all system activities. Provide training to staff on
all aspects of technology and automation. Prepare written documentation
on procedures for staff. Act as the official division contact with
vendors, consultants, communications and other technical personnel who
provide services to the division. Work with other OHS divisions and
gateway sites on matters related to technology, automation, and
networking.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communications skills.
Ability to train staff, both individually and in groups, in the effective
use of all relevant electronic and computerized applications. Experience
with integrated library system. Experience with microcomputer
applications, local area networks (LANs), the World Wide Web (including
HTML and SGML skills), CD-ROM software applications, online systems, and
telecommunications. Knowledge of electronic archives and digitizing
projects. Knowledge of cataloging (including MARC records) and other
technical services operations (including fiscal operations) is desirable.
QUALIFICATIONS
Two-five years of experience in a library of an archives or historical
society; experience in an automated environment preferred. MLS with
appropriate experience preferred; or any equivalent combination of
experience or training.
