Cataloging Electronic Databases?

I'd like to know if any other library has taken it upon themselves to
catalog their e-databases in a way that the user can search for them by
subject, title, keyword, etc.
We have done this by full-text indexing the title, description and
keywords (which the people who work closely with users using them have
provided) in order to search for these from our web pages. Additionally
to being able to type in queries to arrive at the specified database by
issuing keywords, we have listings by keyword, by title and by area of
knowledge.
Although we still have some problems with this system (some patrons get the
idea that our query form to arrive at a certain Database is actually a way to
get at the information in them...) we have found out it works in most
cases.
Could a Database be LC- or Dewey-classified? If so, would you have them
show up among books in your OPAC? If not, why?
