I am a Webmaster at a corporate site, charged with tagging documents
and checking the HTML of all documents that come in from the various
departments. I believe that it is especially useful to know/understand
basic HTML, but I am all in favor of using a tool that makes it easier
to render.
I use the HotDog Professional Web Editor. I like it because it allows
me to see everything that I am doing (and by coloring the tags, it
also allows easier editing of the copy and tags as needed). I have
also found Hot Dog to be a decent tool for teaching others how to tag
pages (another of my tasks) as it includes the HTML standard and
decent help. It functions enough like Word Perfect (with the "View
Codes" choice invoked) that it is pretty easy to learn.

I am now working on the web page for my company, as the person who was doing
this has left. He was using MS Frontpage. I cannot use this as I don't
have W'95, and I basically learned to work with straight HTML.
Question: Is there an advantage to working with an HTML authoring tool? He
mentioned that there was, but didn't have time to explain before he left.
I downloaded a tool called FlexED which works with my machine.
I would appreciate some insight into doing web pages with an authoring tool
vs. without. I have heard pros and cons for each.
Thanks,
