Electronic Services Librarian
The Joint Libraries of the College of Saint Benedict and Saint
John's University invite applications for the position of
Electronic Services Librarian. This newly-created position is
part of a team of librarians responsible for developing and
delivering information services over the campus network. Provides
general and specialized reference services, participates in library
instruction activities, and serves as liaison to faculty in
appropriate departments. Special responsibility for the Libraries'
Government Documents program, particularly as it relates to
electronic information retrieval. Reports to the Associate
Director for Public Services. The College of Saint Benedict and
Saint John's University operate a single campus network connecting
over 850 personal computer workstations running at ethernet speed
which will soon migrate to WindowsNT. The Joint Libraries intend
to take advantage of this environment by delivering as many
services as possible over this network to faculty offices, student
dorm rooms, and public access computing areas.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide reference services in a variety of
environments, including the reference desk, electronic mail,
conferences with faculty, etc. Participate in library instruction
programs, including First Year Symposium program, upper-level
courses in assigned academic departments, and with individual
faculty members. Assist in development of interfaces to the
Libraries' electronic resources, and participate in long-range
planning for information technology in the Joint Libraries. Aact
as library liaison to appropriate academic departments. Special
responsibility for the Library's Government Documents collection.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required: ALA-accredited Master's degree in
Library Science. Strong written and oral communications skills;
commitment to collaborative work environment; ability to handle
multiple priorities; experience with World Wide Web information
access and applications, CDROM databases, and online resources such
as FirstSearch and Dialog. Preferred: Academic background in the
sciences or social sciences, and experience managing a Government
Documents collection in an academic library.
This a full time, 12 month position with an excellent fringe
benefits package. Salary dependent on qualifications.
