Here are the LINUX4LIB messages relating to access to DOS
CDROMs under Linux.
Best wishes,

Has anyone tried this? How does it work, in terms of speed,
display, keyboard mapping, etc.? Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

Hi,
I had a little try recently... accessing the Ethernet card via
packet driver (in DOSEMU) worked, so I decided to install FTP's
PCTCP and try our local CDROM net configuration which includes
LANCD.
It did not work. At least it does not work the way it does normally.
Maybe it works if you include IPX support in the Linux kernel.
Anyway it is impressing to see some old DOS programs running in
a telnet session... so good luck!

Yes, it does work.
You have to enable IPX in the kernel. Use pdipx.com (Packet driver) and
netx. ODI drivers and vlm's are slower in most configurations.
You can only have one login from each hardware address (i.e. network
card) unless you used the DOSNet drivers (v-net in the dosemu
distribution), and ipxbridge. I have only had success with version 0.1
of ipxbridge.
The speed is acceptable -- near actual machine speed for some
applications. With the virtual network mentioned above you take a big
speed hit when accessing a Novell network, otherwise it's not bad.
The display is very dependent on your terminal emulator. DOS *DEMANDS*
an 80x25 screen, or things look _very_ strange.
Keyboard mapping is normally pretty good, plus they have support for
"virtual" funcion keys -- a special keystroke (control-^ I think) plus a
number yeilds a function key, for example control-^-1 gives F1. You can
also add entries to /etc/termcap for specific terminal emulators.
