telnet with advanced script facilities

Theo, you should look at the Expect program. It allows you to control 
input and output of Unix program using the Tcl programming language. It's 
free and compiles nicely on many Unix platforms. It can be ftped  from 
svin02.info.win.tue.nl (haven't checked address) for from 
ftp.cme.nist.gov in the USA (just checked and it's there). There is also 
a book "Exploring Expect" by Don Libes.  Don wrote the Expect program.
