While most of us would agree that it would be nice to have a 
credentialled librarian in these high paying positions, many of us -- 
particularly in the public sector -- must use state-standard "canned" 
position titles to get the knowledge, skills, and abilitities we want.  
Having just gone through this exercise, I was able to get a variance for 
experience, but could not mandate a MLS.
