ROI or savings in paper due to electronic communication?

Has anybody out there gathered statistics for their or other libraries in 
which an e-mail, Gopher, WWW or similar system designed to reduce costs 
in paper distribution has produced an overall positive (or negative) 
effect? Thanks in advace...
