Why is physical presence in a geographic area a requisite for your opportunity?

With an Internet project and its potential, shouldn't web presence supercede
geography if not eliminate it entirely? 

Imho, we all have to put on our "internet caps" and start thinking
virtually. I do not understand hesitation to act with the mindset of the
technology we espouse.
