NOTICE OF VACANCY

REFERENCE/ELECTRONIC SERVICES LIBRARIAN, BIOMEDICAL LIBRARY,
University of California, San Diego. Rank: Assistant Librarian I-VI
or Associate Librarian I-IV, $29,976-$43,032.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the general direction of the Head of Public
Services, incumbent serves as a member of the reference team and has
leadership responsibility for planning, developing, coordinating and
promoting electronic information services. Oversees the development
of the Biomedical Library's WWW Home Page and Web-based information
services. Teaches and consults in the use of electronic information
sources, bibliographic management software, CD-ROM resources, and
online databases. Shares responsibility for providing reference desk
coverage, online searching, consultation services, and instructional
services. Coordinates mediated online searching service. UCSD
librarians, as academic appointees, are expected to participate in
library planning and to be active professionally.
QUALIFICATIONS: MLS; well-developed microcomputer and online searching
skills; experience with Internet resources and tools; knowledge of
relevant print and electronic reference resources; ability to consult
in a highly automated, networked environment; excellent interpersonal
and communication skills; demonstrated analytical and organizational
skills; demonstrated teaching ability. Candidate must be
team-oriented, flexible, and able to work both independently and
collaboratively in a complex, changing environment. Desirable:
experience in a health sciences library, background in the life
sciences, 2-3 years reference experience, experience with
bibliographic management software. Appointment at the Associate rank
requires substantial relevant experience and superior qualifications.
The Biomedical Library and its branch Medical Center Library have a
collection of over 226,000 volumes with 3200 current serials and a
staff of 31.0 FTE including 8.0 FTE librarians. The library is fully
automated and offers a full range of public services, including a
comprehensive instructional program and Web-based information services
(http:// biomed.ucsd.edu/biomed).
