We have been looking for solutions in this area also, our Domain is 
mostly Software.  We prototyped a tool which seamlessly browses and 
searches Metadata in multiple libraries.  The tool used the recently 
approved IEEE BIDM (Basic Interopability Data Model) and the optional 
META TAGS in HTML 2.0.  We have now begun looking for other standards for 
use in our domain of interest, and possible others.  The effort is fairly 
new, but we have created the following two collections and found the 
named assets (holdings) for each.  Please feel free to browse same at 
ELSA, and do send us your ideas on what else might be included.

are at the bottom of the list (since they are the newest).  What follows 
is a brief description of the Collections, and the names of their Assets

Collection: MetaData

Description : Contains assets relating to Metadata between WWW servers,
clients and databases.
