The Social Security Death Masterfile (aka Death Index or SSDI) is
available on the web at:

http://www.infobases.com/ssdi/query01.htm

It is still under development, but it appears that all surnames are
searchable at this time except for those beginning with "F" or "H."

The only other place that I know the SSDI to be available is on Nexis, but
it is one of the files blocked on their academic accounts.
