UNIMARC Implementation

Dear colleagues,

the European Association of Chinese Studies (EACS) has received
a grant to construct a database of Sinological Serials in
Euopean Libraries (short: SSELP). I have two specific questions
in relation to the database concept that I'd like to put forward:

1. we decided to use UNIMARC as the format; is there a specific
low-cost, Windows or UNIX-based librarians software that handles
the UNIMARC format "naturally", i.e. without me having to fiddle
around with configuration files, export parameters etc?

2. are there any suggestions as to how multipe holding statements
(for serial locations in the various libraries) are handled in
UNIMARC?

The database draws from data resources from the serials database
of the German Library Institute in Berlin (10.000 titles plus
approx. 50.000 holding statements) and will be available to
scholars and students of East Asian Studies throughout Europe
(or wherever) on a Sun server through the net and telnet access.

Any suggestions will be welcome

greetings from freezing Heidelberg

Th. H. Hahn
