LIBRARY SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR

DESCRIPTION OF WORK: The Public Library of Charlotte & Mecklenburg County is looking for a Library System Administrator. This position is responsible for the administration, support, training, coordination & planning for Dynix which provides acquisitions, cataloging, circulation, ILL, PAC/DialPac, Telecirc, ENS, and Internet access. The Library has recently converted Dynix to an HP 9000 hardware platform and will shortly upgrade applications software to the latest release.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Comprehensive knowledge of computer applications in libraries and system management practices. Dynix or equivalent library system experience. UNIX administration knowledge and experience including  script writing. Capability for troubleshooting, repair, and installation of peripherals. Four year college degree required. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Flexible schedule including some night and weekend work for special projects and emergencies.

The Public Library of Charlotte & Mecklenburg County is a public library serving a population of 550,000 people with a total budget of approximately $17,000,000, a staff of 330, and 23 facilities. The Library operates a 250 plus user Dynix system and a configuration of over 300 public PC's that provide access to local, network, and Internet resources. The Library was named the 1995-96 Library of the Year by Library Journal and The Library of the Future by ALA in 1996. It is also a participant in the Microsoft Libraries Online project.
