finger server

We are in the process of getting a domain name and have applied to Internic and 
we got a response back today that says to "finger" the following (and then it 
give 2 e-mail addresses).  We don't know what "finger" means and don't know how 
to proceed.  Also, it refers to a "finger server."
What does that mean?  Thanks for all the help in advance. Also, we are really 
sorry if this is something really elementary.
