Commercial sponsorship (advertising) aside, Pointcast is, IMHO, an
attractive alternative to a some of the mindless screen savers I seen.  If
you don't want it to display, go to control panel then desktop in Windows
and set your screensaver to none (or whatever you prefer).

As for the advertising and customization features, you can eliminate the ads
and customize to your hearts content for $19.95/month with IBM's Infosage.
