Team Leader, Networked Resources and Services Team
North Carolina State University Libraries invites applications and nominations
for the position of Team Leader for its recently established Networked
Resources and Services Team. This is an opportunity for a creative,
innovative leader to join a dynamic team of professionals to initiate and
implement new services and collections in a rapidly evolving information
environment. The qualified applicant will be an individual who operates
successfully in the emerging electronic environment and has a solid
understanding of the traditional models of building research library
collections. The Team Leader will guide the cross-functional efforts of team
members, including the Client Services Librarian for Networked Resources, the
Librarian for the Organization of Networked Resources, the Networked
Technologies Development Librarian, and the Multimedia Resources Librarian.
Team members are located within existing departments as the NCSU Libraries
moves to integrate networked resources and services into the mainstream of
library operations. The NCSU Libraries will support the team with its own
dedicated work space and advanced technologies and systems in an open and
integrated computing environment.
Responsibilities
As Team Leader, reporting to the Assistant Director for Information
Technologies, has library-wide responsibilities for the development of digital
library initiatives. Leads the library in the creation of innovative,
user-responsive electronic services and resources, including advanced World
Wide Web-based services, development of digital collections, and
implementation of emerging network-based multimedia, video, and audio
resources and services. Develop a matrix-and-project management model for
cross-functional operations in the Libraries. Works with other library and
campus-wide groups and collaborates with faculty and with academic computing
colleagues to shape NC State's information environment. With a departmental
assignment in Collection Management, provides expertise in the selection,
evaluation, creation, and licensing of electronic resources, particularly
assessment of technical and service considerations for implementation of
digital resources. Is professionally active, participates in library
planning, and serves on library-wide task forces and committees.
Qualifications
Required: ALA-accredited MLS; significant relevant professional experience.
Evidence of ongoing exploration and creative application of emerging
information technologies; substantive knowledge of electronic and multimedia
resources, including Internet resources. Ability to work effectively with
faculty and students; ability to lead and excel in a team environment.
Demonstrated ability to develop electronic resource collections and programs;
knowledge of scholarly communication patterns; understanding of collection
management in an academic and research environment. Evidence of effective
collaboration with faculty and students. Demonstrated record of ongoing
professional development.
Preferred: Minimum 5 years' relevant professional experience.

The library system consists of a central library and branch libraries for

affiliation with a separately administered learning resources library and
African-American Cultural Center reading room . With a staff of 245 FTE, the
Libraries has over 2.5 million volumes in its collection, and acquires more
than 19,000 current serials. In 1996, a budget increase of $4.1 million
will bring the total annual budget to over $16 million, with over $6.5 million
allocated to collections. With the increased funding, the Libraries will
significantly enhance its collections and aggressively expand digital
initiatives to improve ease and speed of access to its user community.
The NCSU Libraries is a founding member of SOLINET and a member of the
Association of Research Libraries and the Center for Research Libraries.
Together with Duke University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel
Hill, NCSU founded the Triangle Research Libraries Network, a cooperative
effort of distinction among four major universities with combined resources
approaching 12 million volumes, and collections budgets totaling more than $22
million.
Salary and Benefits
The Libraries offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience, not
less than $43,000 for this position Librarians at NCSU have academic status
without tenure or rank. Benefits include: 26 days vacation; health insurance
(comprehensive major medical or HMO), and TIAA/CREF, state, or other
retirement options. Additional and optional dental, life, disability,
deferred compensation, and legal plans are available. Tuition waiver program
for all campuses of The University of North Carolina is available.
