                         CALL FOR IDEAS/ARTICLES

   LIBRES, an electronic, peer-reviewed, scholary journal in the field of
Library and Information Science Research, is devoting a special issue to
the subject of telecommuting and telecomputing in the area of cataloging.
LIBRES is distributed quarterly to over 2,000 subscribers world-wide, and

   This preliminary call for papers is an attempt to determine a list of
potential contributors and current innovators in this emerging area of
technical services and entrepreneurship. Some sample sub-topics to be
reported upon or examined include:

   *technical services units in large academic, research, or public
    libraries that are experimenting in or have already established
    successful work schedules involving telecommuting;

   *special libraries in corporate, government, or other areas that are
    experimenting in this area due to governmental requirements
    involving environmental reductions in smog and pollution, or as a
    result of downsizing and shrinking budgets;

   *thoughtful examination of this issue from a particular viewpoint:
    administrative, supervisory, lifestyle enrichment, human relations
    equipment requirements, etc.;

   *solo catalogers involved in entrepreneurial and unique situations,
    working at home remotely on library-related projects involving
    government grants, consortiums, and coalitions; or having home
    businesses that provide cataloging services.

   Anyone interested in contributing to this special issue, either in
the mentioned sub-topics or other related situations, is invited to
forward their idea/article for inclusion in this special issue. The
following timetable has been established:

    Potential ideas for contributions submitted: Oct. 15, 1995
    Contributors of accepted ideas/articles contacted: Nov. 15, 1995
    Final draft of articles submitted by contributors: Feb. 15, 1996
    Review/revision of articles:                         Feb.-Apr. 1996
    Special issue published over Internet: May 1996
