The recent announcement from The New York Times that TimesSelect is now
available to students and faculty has raised questions for some libraries
subscribing to ProQuest CSA¹s Historical New York Times product. At first
blush these products seem similar; however, they¹re designed to serve
different needs and users. Here¹s a brief summary of how ProQuest
Historical New York Times is unique.

ProQuest Historical New York Times is designed for users conducting in-depth
research across many subject areas. These searches often require unlimited
access and usage without additional charges for content, and technology
tools that provide precise results. To that end, ProQuest Historical New
York Times includes:
> * Comprehensive full page and article images from 1851 through 2003
> * Ability to browse as well as to use robust search features, such as limiters
> by article type, that help focus result sets
> * Extensive advanced search capabilities including Boolean searching
> * Access to all the content that appeared in the original papers, including
> material such as display ads, comics, and more‹all of which can be viewed in
> the original page layout as well as by article
> * Ability to cross-search with other historical papers as well as other
> products on the historical platform such as the American Periodical Series,
> giving users access to many types of content from multiple viewpoints
In short, ProQuest Historical New York Times is designed to make vigorous
research by serious researchers fast, direct and comprehensive.

We hope this has provided some clarity, but if you have further questions

Thank you.
