It happens with IE version 6, but Firefox 1.07 is OK (well this morning
it did!)

This might be a silly question, but what browser are you using? When I
try using Netscape, for instance, I get the same result you describe
below. But when I use the latest version of IE it works fine.

I have been trying to demo Microsoft's http://academic.live.com/ to
academics in the last few day's but when I type my search string in and
press enter, it goes off seemingly to do something, I quickly see an
unrelated directory page and all I then see happen on screen then is a
page that says loading................

Am I alone with this????????

Meanwhile they are happy to use Google Scholar, along with our other
resources..........
