We are currently seeking a qualified individual in our Library Automation
Unit in the Information Resources and Communications Department. We offer a
comprehensive benefit package and are located in downtown Oakland with
accessibility to BART and AC Transit.

PROGRAMMER/ANALYST III   $44,300 -  66,400

Essential functions: As a member of the Library Automation unit, provide
workstation-based support for user interfaces for the University of
California MELVYL Library system through programming, design, and analysis.
Develop complex UNIX-based application and protocol software for the MELVYL
system. Modify and maintain developed software in response to input from
campus and end users.  Enhance pre-existing software packages to provide new
functionality. With senior staff will participate in specification and
design of the technical environment and system for workstation-based
applications, including end user interfaces for the MELVYL system (such as
WEB server applications) and system packages. Provide unit staff with
technical support and training on issues concerning UNIX, C programming
language, etc.  Provide analytical support for defining requirements and
establishing the technical environment for developing UNIX applications for
the MELVYL system.  Analyze available UNIX tools and components and make
recommendations as to how to best integrate them into the evolving system.

Skills, knowledge and abilities:  Significant related experience including C
programming and UNIX operating system. Logical reasoning skills. Problem
recognition and solving skills. Excellent oral and communications skills.
Prefer  experience with Web based applications, C++, perl, Java, Z39.50
protocol, X-Windows system, and Adobe Acrobat PDF and other file formats.
