The Eighth Annual Slice of Life Workshop will be held June 23rd thru June
28th at the University of Chicago's Biological Sciences Learning Center.
The workshop offers an opportunity for individuals to learn about the
latest in interactive media developments in the health sciences by those
doing the developing and to participate through attendance at either the
pre-workshop tutorials or the presentation and demostration sessions during
the days of the workshop itself. Those wishing to take part in both
pre-workshop and formal workshop activities are encouraged to do so. The
full workshop program may be viewed by visiting the Slice '97 Web page at:

                  http://slice97.uchicago.edu

Three days of pre-workshop tutorials are planned. Monday and Tuesday (June
23rd and 24th) a 2-day learning "camp" will be offered to health sciences
educators who are interested in designing multimedia Web sites to support
and enhance their curricula. The cost of this pre-workshop tutorial is
$250 for conference registrants; $300 for non-conference registrants. The
learning camp is limited to a maximum of 50 participants. Also offered on
Tuesday, the 24th, will be a tour of multimedia educational facilities in
the metro-Chicago area. Learn how the design and equipping of lecture
halls, labs, and learning centers can enhance the educational experience of
students and faculty alike. The cost for this "Tour of the Best" is $100
(pre-registration required) and is limited to a single busload
(approximately 45). Wednesday, June 25th, offers participants a choice of
five pre-workshop tutorials. These tutorials (the morning session) are
presented simultaneously so it will be necessary to choose from among them.
The cost of each tutorial is $50. You do not need to be registrered for
the workshop to attend, however, pre-registration for the tutorials is
required.

Beginning on Thursday, June 26th, and running thru noon Saturday, June
28th, the workshop proper will take place. During these two and a half
days workshop registrants will see and hear, from over 20 presenters, the
latest developments in multimedia education for the health sciences. Each
day's events are divided into a morning presentation session followed in
the afternoon by breakout sessions and over 55 "show and tell"
demonstrations. Keynote speakers who possess valuable insights and
experiences in multimedia innovations, production and publication will be
addressing workshop participants at the beginning of each morning's
presentations. Registration fee for the days of the workshop is $275
(until May 1st); $325 afterwards. For those inidividuals attending the
workshop as students the registration fee is $175 (until May 1st).
Additional tickets for the Field Museum dinner on Thursday, June 26th, are
$35. Cost, per person, for the Grand Extravaganza following the conclusion
of the workshop on Saturday, June 28th, is $50. Accommodations are offered
to workshop attendees at one of two on-campus residences. the cost, per
night, for a single room is $54; double $67; suite $98. Parking at the
residence halls is $5 per day (with $5 entry card fee).
