Should this list continue?

This is indeed good news but we are living in an age of great overlap and where library schools are now called I-Schools. Where are the posts on social networks? posts by public librarians? on the Internet of Tbings? on the mobile web? etc. And in an era of a global digital library, why is there also a UK list, an IFLA list? That's just some food for thought.

But, I do think it is important to have a place where, as has happened with ALCTS, that librarians can start an unconference-like two day discussion on a topic of interest. So, much of it is in the hands of the community. But, without a space, and I guess there is much more comfort with listservs, these kinds of options would not be possible.

A mixed bag as always in a disruptive environment.

Best, Marty

Roy,

Thank you for asking the community. I am glad others find this helpful as I have. I am glad to hear it will continue as a listserv hosted elsewhere.

The poll results are clear: subscribers want the list to continue, and they by far prefer remaining on the LISTSERV platform rather than Google Groups. So I have taken up Lisa Haitz's kindly offer and will be coordinating with her to handoff the list from the University of Notre Dame. I will keep you all posted on things as they happen. Thank you for your feedback!

I may not post all that often, but have found the denizens of this list to be very helpful.

We still host a listserv server at UC.

I would be happy to host here if people would like the list to continue.

Dear Subscribers,

The University of Notre Dame, through the very kind broker Eric Lease Morgan, has hosted Web4Lib for a number of years. I am very, very grateful for their support.

I have now been informed that all UND lists will be migrated to Google Groups or shutdown. Thus, I must decide to either migrate the list to Google Groups, find another hosting situation, or shut it down.

I am considering whether to shut it down. I want to make it clear that although the question has been called due to the need to make a hosting decision, I do not feel in any way that the University of Notre Dame is shutting us down -- they are not.

However, I think is a good time to consider whether the list is worth continuing. Although I feel like a list that is for discussing web issues in a library context is still potentially important, the list archive proves otherwise. What we find are a litany of announcements but very little actual discussion.

So we must decide, as a group, what to do. Does this list provide value? Do you want it to continue in Google Groups? To find out what you want, I've created a poll:

Please let me know what you all think. Thanks,
