The session will take place on the 28th of June 2016 - 16:00 Rome Time [3] and will be presented by Thomas Ingraham who is the Publishing Editor at F1000Research[4]. ABOUT THE WEBINAR Open access has been a positive force in scientific publishing. But the removal of paywalls and restrictive licencing are not the only issues that need to be tackled; unnecessary delays to publication, irreproducible findings, publication biases, and poor access to underlying data and code also need to be addressed. This is especially important in agriculture and nutrition research where quick, unrestricted access to knowledge is crucial to solving urgent issues including food security, biodiversity conservation, and emerging infectious diseases in crops and animals. This webinar will cover how the novel approaches taken by the publication venue Open Knowledge in Agricultural Development (OKAD) [5] and the publishing platform it is hosted on, F1000Research, are addressing these issues. OKAD publishes academic articles, posters and slide presentations involving open knowledge projects within all areas of agriculture, nutrition and agro-biodiversity. By using F1000Research's post-publication peer review platform, OKAD ensures rapid access to research within days of submission. Experts are invited to peer review upon publication, and their signed peer review reports are published alongside the article. All articles and any associated data and code are made publically available. REGISTRATION The session is open to anyone but places are limited. If you are interested to attend the webinar, send an e-mail to AIMS at fao.org, containing the following information: your name, affiliation, email, country and the name of the webinar. How to contribute and next appointments, Claudio Prandoni (10 mins) 5. Q&A Outline: Pre-Commercial Procurement (PCP) is a competition-like method designed to steer the development of innovative solutions towards concrete public sector needs. These solutions are developed by external suppliers that are awarded a contract through a phased open procurement process. In the last years, the PCP instrument is becoming more and more popular within the public sector and the European Union increased support for groups of public procurers working together on joint PCPs under Horizon 2020. PREFORMA is a PCP project co-funded by the European Commission under its FP7-ICT Programme to work on one of the main challenges that memory institutions are facing nowadays: the long-term preservation of digital data. In particular, the project offers memory institutions an open source conformance checker that controls if a file complies with the standard specifications and with the acceptance criteria of the institutions, thus giving them full control of the process of conformity testing of files to be created, migrated and ingested into archives. This software development is carried out in a collaborative environment with memory institutions and experts. Aim of the webinar is to present the first results of the project and to invite the wider digital preservation community ? open source community, developers, standardization bodies and memory institutions ? to participate in this process. For more information about the PREFORMA project visit: http://www.preforma-project.eu/ Time: 13:30 BST / 14:30 CET. The webinar will last approximately one hour. At least one presentation author needs to register for the workshop (this is a strict requirement). *Themes for the 16th NKOS workshop will be:* (1) KOS Alignment. KOS alignment or terminology mapping plays a vital role in NKOS for many years. This year we want to sort out the needs (use cases) of KOS alignments in the new environment of Linked Open Data. We plan to collect methodologies, best practices, guidelines and tools. This includes manual and automatic alignments. (2) KOS Linked Open Data. Recent years have seen an increasing trend to publication of KOS as Linked Data vocabularies. We need discussion of practical initiatives to link between congruent vocabularies and provide effective web services and APIs so that applications can build upon them. (3) Subject metadata for research data. With increasing recognition of the need to manage research data as part of universities research output, subject metadata represent particular challenges that need to be addressed from theoretical as well as practical perspectives. We plan to discuss existing issues, especially in terms of interoperability across disciplines as well as applications, and strive towards establishment of best practices and guidelines. *Further timely presentations/demonstrations will be selected from the following topics in the CfP:* (4) KOS-based recommender systems. The suggestion of the right meaningful concepts is a mission critical phase for searchers in modern DL. (5) Meaningful Concept Display and Meaningful Visualization of KOS. (6) Standards developments. (7) Evaluation of KOS-based systems ? methods and practical experience. *KOS applications are a regular and important part of NKOS workshops. Example topics include:* (8) KOS in e-Research metadata contexts - intersection between research data, KOS, Semantic web. (9) Social tagging. What is the role of social tagging and informal knowledge structures versus established KOS? (How) can tagging be guided and informed by KOS? (10) Users interaction with KOS in the online environment. (11) KOS and learning. What is required to use KOS effectively to convey meaning, to assist users to express their information needs to assist in sense making and learning? (12) Multilingual and Interdisciplinary KOS applications and tools. (13) Specific domains, such as environmental, medical, new application contexts, etc. After the workshop, copies of both proposals and presentations will be made available on both the workshop website and the DC-2016 conference website. Submissions are subject to the DCMI copyright provisions ( http://dcevents.dublincore.org/IntConf/dc-2016/about/submissions#copyrightNotice). The National Library of Norway collects all media types published in Norway, including radio and television broadcasts, films, music, and the Norwegian part of the Internet. Within the coming 20?30 years, they plan to digitize their complete collection. 90% of all books ever published in Norway, 30% of all newspapers and nearly 100% of all recorded radio programs from the largest and oldest radio broadcast station in Norway are already digitised. In January 2016, a revised legal deposit law was passed in Norway, which includes the right to do full domain Internet harvest and the legal deposit of the digital masters for paper publications. With a digital collection of 5.2 petabytes of unique data, growing at a rate of 1 petabyte per year, it is vital for the National Library to have a trustworthy solution for digital preservation. They are looking at preservation in terms of 1000 years. *Svein Arne Solbakk, Director for Digital Library Development, National Library of Norway* commented: ?We have been working in digital preservation for more than 15 years. In this time, the library has collaborated with several other national libraries on issues related to digital preservation. We are now starting work on revising our digital preservation policies and practice. We consider OPF a valuable arena to discuss digital preservation with other institutions experiencing the same challenges, and to learn valuable lessons from how the other institutions have implemented their digital preservation?. *Joachim Jung, Executive Director, Open Preservation Foundation* commented: ?We are very pleased to welcome the National Library of Norway as our newest member, and were happy they could join us at our Annual General Meeting in June. Fostering collaboration between our members is a priority for the Foundation. We are fascinated by their ambitious digitisation project, and look forward to working with them?. (We have a lot of restricted materials so all printing needs to be routed via our staff.) We would now like to offer patrons the choice to print to PDF or to print to paper. If they choose to print to PDF, we would still charge the same rate per page, and we would then deliver the PDF through email or some other kind of electronic delivery. (Allowing the use of flash drives is not an option.) We have learned that CASSIE doesn't allow printing to PDF; while it might be possible to bypass CASSIE, we would then lose the page counting and job charge features. Does anyone else have a similar constraints as well as similar needs, and if so, how are you providing patrons with the ability to print to PDF? The printing program does allow printing pdf files though some websites force one to download the pdf file then open Adobe Reader to print the file. The printing program also sets printing costs and the number of pages allowed to be printed. If you need more info, please let me know.
