The Sandia National Laboratories Technical Library provides quality information products and services that support the research needs of the engineers, scientists, and staff of Sandia National Laboratories.  Using the most current technology and employee expertise, the Technical Library acquires, organizes, manages, and delivers a variety of information resources and systems.

Job Description
Are you looking for a challenge?  Are you interested in information management and in helping researchers find the information they need to be successful in their work?  Are you interested in moving the discoverability of information forward in new and creative ways?  The Sandia Technical Library is looking for an individual who has these interests at heart; as well as an individual who has an interest in the kind of work, products and services that a research library delivers.  In the perfect role, the selected individual will have technical responsibilities for the Library’s discovery layers – including the Ex Libris products of Primo and SFX and the Library’s Sirsi-Dynix Horizon integrated library system (ILS). The selected individual will work closely with, joined at the hip of sorts, with the Technical Library’s Web/SharePoint Librarian to develop and deploy solutions that enable the Sandia Research community to find the information they need in support of mission work.  The selected individual will also work with, as directed by Library Management, with a sister IT organization in the further development of search and discovery tools that improve our service to Library customers.

Primary Duties

·         Translates business needs into information solutions and defines solutions to business problems through reasoned application of information management principles

·         May work with management information systems specialist to optimize information management software applications that link through networks, in existing stand-alone computers, or to coordinate data systems in intranet environments

·         Describes information and relationships in taxonomies, metadata schemas, and ontologies, which may be used for organization, retrieval, or presentation of information

·         May work with internal clients to manage and use information management systems or tools to collect and disseminate information, communications, and data to internal and external team members and customers

·         May work with internal clients on selection, configuration, and use of information management systems and integrated information management solutions

·         Ensures information management and communication tools evolve to meet the users’ changing communication and collaboration requirements

·         May establish inventories of information repositories and sources, and explore opportunities for information reuse and repurpose

·         Assists with implementing information systems to meet business and user requirements

·         Tests applications and reports to ensure accuracy and completeness

·         Conducts and participates in multidisciplinary research and collaborates with software developers and customers in the design, development, and testing of custom applications

·         Works with clients and staff to conduct high-level investigations for strategies, requirements specifications, and feasibility studies, and communicates requirements to members of the workforce

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

·         Demonstrates knowledge of the six domain areas across the spectrum of content and information management:  access/use; capture/manage; plan/implement; collaborate/deliver; secure/preserve; and architecture/systems

·         Demonstrates analytical and project management ability and attention to detail

·         Strong verbal and written communication skills

·         Strong teaming skills

·         Ability to incorporate mission needs into information management solutions

·         Ability to successfully interact with multiple levels of management

·         Ability to establish effective relationships with internal and external contacts

Requirements

·         A Bachelor's degree in Library Science, Computer Information Systems, or related field

·         Ability to obtain and maintain a required DOE security clearance

Desired

·         A cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher for undergraduate and 3.5 or higher for graduate degrees

·         A Master's degree in Library Science, Computer Information Systems, or related field plus 2 or more years of experience

·         A minimum of two-years of experience with the technical management and support of library technologies – such as search discovery tools, integrated library systems and link-resolvers

·         Technical experience with the Ex Libris products Primo and SFX

·         Technical experience with the Sirsi-Dynix Horizon integrated library system

·         Technical experience with deploying an open-source integrated library system

·         Demonstrated programming skills in a variety of computer languages
