Virtual Community Engagement Manager
Full-time


We are seeking an experienced, innovative professional with a strong understanding of online community building to be our new Virtual Community Engagement Manager.

Under the direction of the Deputy Director, and in cooperation with members of the Library's senior management team, the Virtual Community Engagement Manager oversees the Library's online presences including the Library website, social media channels, and additional websites managed by the Library. In addition, the Virtual Community Engagement Manager works with others to develop strategies for content, visual design, and user research.

Required education/experience:

  *   MLS from an ALA accredited Library school or relevant experience
  *   3-5 years of experience in designing and managing websites
  *   High-level understanding of social media channels and online community building
  *   Strong project management experience with a proven ability to set clear objectives and measure results
  *   Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, including oral and written communication

Preferred education/experience:

  *   Leadership and management experience
  *   Experience with HTML and CSS
  *   Knowledge of Python programming language and Django web framework
  *   Awareness of website user research methods including usability testing
  *   Wireframing and other prototyping approaches for website development
  *   Understanding of responsive web design, cross-browser issues, best practices for user-interface design, and web and accessibility standards

Duties and responsibilities include:

  *   Oversees Library's online presences, including design and content strategy of Library websites and social media channels
  *   Ensures that the Library's online presences and virtual resources are integrated and designed to provide an excellent user experience
  *   Hire, manage, and review staff, including Web Developer, Content Strategy Coordinator, and Production Assistants
  *   Defines guidelines for tone and style for online content
  *   Consults with Community Engagement Manager and other members of the senior management team to develop and integrate virtual services strategies into the overall strategic plan of the Library
  *   Analyzes data on social media and website traffic to identify areas of improvement
  *   Contributes content to Library website and social media, as well as encouraging content creation by the public
  *   Trains staff and the public on use of social media and all aspects of the Library website, including online catalog and databases, on variety of devices
  *   Attends and presents at professional meetings and conferences
  *   Stays current on professional industry news and developments

Salary range: $59,500-$87,900
