Job Overview
Drexel University Libraries seek a creative and energetic Web Developer to design and implement innovative and effective tools and sites that enhance the Libraries' role in supporting academic research and resource discovery.

The successful candidate will play a lead role in the development and maintenance of web applications, including: a revamping of the Libraries' Drupal web site; an implementation of Islandora with custom support for archives, records management, and campus research data; and a discovery layer that integrates multiple library content sources and services.

Reporting to the Manager, Discovery Systems, the Library Web Developer works closely with the web and library systems teams to determine needs, develop design documentation, troubleshoot applications, and provide maintenance. In addition, web developer works with key Libraries staff in designing and evaluating user testing and analytics to inform design decisions. The candidate maintains up-to-date system documentation and manages code in a version-control system.

Required Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Information or Computer Sciences or a related field.
* Three years relevant work experience.
* Demonstrated proficiency in a scripting language, preferably PHP, with experience in one or more of the following programming languages: Ruby, Python, Java.
* Experience with Drupal site-building, theming, and coding modules or equivalent experience with another CMS.
* Strong working knowledge of Javascript/jQuery, HTML5, CSS
* Experience with Linux
* Demonstrated ability to utilize user centered design methodologies, usability
principles, and information architecture best practices and principles in designing sites and applications.
* Ability to prioritize and work flexibly in a multiple project environment.
* Sound judgment and the ability to handle responsibilities with both discretion and independence.
* Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
* Motivated, professional, collaborative/team player comfortable leading as well as executing, and taking constructive input from multiple sources.

Preferred Qualifications
* Experience in an academic and/or library environment
* Familiarity with relational database design and Postgres, Oracle, or MySQL.
* Working knowledge of XML and related technologies (XSLT, XPath, XQuery)
* Working knowledge of Apache, Tomcat & other delivery servers.
* Experience with a version-control system such as Git or Subversion.

Key Responsibilities
* Design, code, and implement custom library web applications, and solutions to extend the functionality of existing tools.
* Drupal site-building, theming, maintenance, and creating Drupal templates using HTML 5/CSS according to design specifications.
* Develop responsive versions of web sites.
* Plan and test web sites for browser and device compatibility
* Maintain and upgrade Drupal content management system.
* Document style guides and templates to maintain standards.
* Utilize best practices in information architecture, user-centered design methodology, and usability principles to create an effective user experience.
* Collaborate with library systems and library staff, and other campus constituents on relevant technology planning and agendas.
* Stay abreast of developments in coding, CMS, usability, and other relevant fields.
