Hi John,
I just attended the NELA conference in Portland Maine. One of the presenters spoke about using old equipment as terminals for OPACs. It was a client server environment with the machines running Linux. Here is the blurb from the conference program.
Dean Baumeister from Memorial Hall Library in Andover, MA, shows how his library has found new uses for old technology.
Hope you can connect with him~
Good luck,

Hi,
We have several PCs which are reserved as OPACs (PCs which can only be used to access the library catalogue). We use Public Web Browser to restrict access to the catalogue. We often use low spec computers for this purpose.
We have the idea of making these PCs boot from a USB pen that uses Linux. We would have to find a browser, like PWB, that can be configured to restrict access. At present we use WinU to display a button that launches our 'Library Catalogue'. We would need something similar that will run on Linux.
I am writing to enquire if any library uses Linux for their OPACs. I would appreciate any advice.
Regards
John
