We, and many others, are using responsive design techniques, like those that Michael mentions, to create a single site that works well across smartphones, tablets, desktops, and whatever form factor comes along next. More at:

Hi Lori,

A few moons ago we created a separate mobile web app with jQuery Mobile, but since then generally we’re going with mobile-first stylesheets that progressively adds styles (like a fluid grid) in media queries. The initial redesign can be a pain, but it’s ultimately easier than maintaining multiple separate bodies of content. IMHO.
