Electronic Resources Management Librarian

The University of Chicago Library invites applicants for the position of Electronic Resources Management (ERM) Librarian.

Home of one of the largest and richest research collections in the world, The University of Chicago Library provides access to an extensive number of e-resources including purchased and licensed serials and electronic books. The ERM Librarian plays a key role in the coordination and management of content supplied by over 500 producers as well as freely-available content. The collection currently contains around 2 million individual electronic titles.

Reporting to the Associate University Librarian (AUL) for Collection Services, the ERM Librarian provides leadership, vision, and direction for electronic resources management in a library that has made it a strategic priority to ensure users can take full advantage of resources. The ERM Librarian establishes standards for electronic resources management, assesses whether standards are being met, and recommends and implements changes to improve electronic resources for Library users. Representing the University of Chicago Library at professional conferences and meetings, and maintaining professional networks and collaborative relationships with other libraries, the ERM Librarian both remains abreast of changes affecting electronic resources management and assumes an active leadership and advocacy role within the field.

The ERM Librarian has primary responsibility for the management of all aspects of our acquired electronic resources, providing support for collecting activities including the identification of potential new products and coordinating the Library's trial program. Provides license support including initial negotiation and technical review to ensure that the licenses conform to University and Library requirements. Manages the ordering of new products and, with other units, coordinates the cataloging activities related to e-resources. Manages link resolver and other access tools, works with other departments to ensure software and hardware is updated to maintain correct links to licensed content, and resolves issues identified by staff or patrons. Works as a liaison with Library groups and committees to evaluate and implement interface designs and changes. The ERM Librarian also supervises the ERM Manager and ERM Assistants.
