Buswell Memorial Library is hiring a Digital Initiatives Coordinator to provide leadership and innovation in the development and management of the library's digital resources.

Library Mission

As the shared center of intellectual inquiry at Wheaton College, the library's mission is to build, preserve, and promote the use of physical and virtual academic resources; foster skilled and confident users of these resources; and promote community on the Wheaton campus.

Responsibilities

The Digital Initiatives Coordinator is part of the Resource Description & Digital Initiatives Group, whose mission is to facilitate user discovery of and access to library resources. The group is active in three areas:

1.      Cataloging & Metadata: to efficiently create and facilitate the means by which users can discover and access library resources.

2.      Preservation: to extend the life of library resources.

3.      Digital Initiatives: to advance the discovery and use of library resources via digital innovations.



Duties

1.      Provides leadership and innovation in the development and management of the library's digital resources, collections, and related projects; oversees the design and development of the library's digital infrastructure

2.      Maintains awareness and develops in-depth knowledge of new technology, relevant national standards, and best practices related to digitization and online scholarship

3.      Participates in the evaluation and implementation of technologies related to digital content (e.g., digital asset management system, institutional repository)

4.      In collaboration with other library staff, maintains and enhances the library's web presence and various electronic services

5.      Coordinates training and implementation for digitization and associated standards

6.      Participates in and contributes to professional and staff development activities to enhance job performance and maintain current awareness of traditional and evolving technology-based information systems, tools and resources

7.      Contributes actively to all group objectives and priorities as needed

8.      Contributes actively to library-wide mission, plans, and objectives

9.      May lead and/or participate in one or more of the library's lateral teams

10.  Oversees and trains student employees or volunteers according to library priorities

11.  Perform other duties as assigned.



Qualifications

1.      Strong commitment to teamwork and collegial relationships, excellent communication skills, and personal flexibility. Engages in outcomes-focused thinking. Desires to continually learn and grow. Displays a work ethic that is consonant with Col. 3:23 ("Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men").

2.      Undergraduate degree.

3.      Technical experience with current digital collection technologies, standards, platforms, and products.

4.      Working knowledge of metadata standards, including non-MARC schema (e.g., Dublin Core, MODS, METS, EAD, TEI, VRA).

5.      Knowledge of best practices in digital projects and with large-scale scanning and digitization projects.

6.      Knowledge of copyright and permissions issues as they relate to digital repositories.

7.      Broad interests and intellectual curiosity.

8.      Highly accurate with data and detail. Organizational skill.

9.      Preferred: Work experience in a library or cultural institution.
