New Library Technology Paradigms: OS vs. Black Box vs. Hybrids
Some libraries build Open Source products, some use them and some
think the cost is too high and choose to purchase out of the box
solutions or build hybrid systems. How do libraries make the choice
to develop OS projects, when they do, how do they build communities to
support their continued development? How do libraries make the choice
to use OS solutions when they may have limited staff available? What
are the trade-offs, benefits and pitfalls of building something in
house, using an existing OS solution, buying something out of the box
or building a hybrid solution.
Our panelists, Peter Murray from LYRASIS, Bohyun Kim, Digital Access
Librarian at Florida International University Medical Library and
Megan Banasek, Systems & Applications Librarian at Pacific University
will talk about how and why they build systems, what drives their
decision making processes, and how they support their decisions, both
in the short and long term.
Join us on June 23rd from 1:30 - 3:30 pm in the Anaheim Convention
Center, Room 206A.
