And that's an important distinction. You indicate that you're not looking for an IT manager, but for a librarian (I assume?) with some tech-expertise and the ability to "talk tech" with stakeholders, to collaborate on technology projects, etc. This is really important to make clear in your job announcement.
Ironically, Margaret and I are collaborating on a talk later this year in part about this sort of liaison position, and its challenges.
Again, good luck! And don't forget to post the job here on Web4Lib when it's ready!
Cheers,
Louise

I should add that I, too, am a librarian, with a tech-interested background, but not extensive formal tech education. Years ago I built a student computer lab from scratch, programmed routers, etc., but I'm really not that hands on anymore. I can talk the language reasonably well, to a point. :)

I do a very similar job to Margaret, though in a single branch, suburban library. Non-supervisory, in part because we have a rather small FT staff for the population we actually serve. Hence no "manager" in my title, but in fact I project manage nearly permanently, as well as planning, implementation, liaison activities, etc. similar to Margaret's list. My title is Reference Technology Librarian, which hardly describes my job, but I do like the fact that I'm a "librarian", as I wear that proudly (and an MLS is required for my job). We have discussed changing my title to Web Services Manager or similar, but nothing came of it.
If they are to be supervisory, be sure that's clear in the title ("manager", "head of..."). As I've job-searched over the years, I've found titles in this realm of work to be vastly different, even for nearly identical jobs.
Good luck!

My title is most often abbreviated to "Technology Manager", and I am in the group of "Library Managers". My full title is "Virtual Branch & Innovative Technology Manager". I oversee all tech efforts for our library system, do tech planning, coordinate with other managers, vendors & City IT staff, project management, and supervise 2 tech staff (Public PCs and ILS) and a Web Librarian 2.

Subject: [WEB4LIB] Job title
Greetings,
Our library is considering adding a new position and we are unsure what the title of the position should be. I thought I would query the list to see if the proposed position corresponds to any already existing job descriptions. Here is a summary of the proposed duties:
"The position is responsible for orchestrating a unified, library-wide approach to delivery of digital library collections, programs, and services. Oversees, coordinates, and evaluates the library's delivery of digital collections, programs, and services."
We do not have an IT person on our staff. Those duties are contracted. Our system consists of a Main library with four branches.
I note that there was an advertisement for an "Electronic Resources Librarians" posted recently which looks similar to what we are proposing. Any other suggestions?
Many Thanks,
Will Stein, Reference Librarian
