Head of Technical Services, Assistant Professor of Library Media

Southern Utah University’s Gerald R. Sherratt Library invites
applications from individuals with vision, creativity, energy, and
initiative.

Founded in 1897, SUU has a long history of serving Cedar City and its
surrounding areas.  Nestled in the heart of beautiful southern Utah,
famous for its colorful national parks, monuments and high desert
scenery and home of the Utah Shakespearean Festival, SUU is a
comprehensive regional university offering graduate, baccalaureate,
associate and technical programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  Manage technical services including supervision of
paraprofessionals and student workers. Technical Services includes
cataloging services, acquisitions of books, journals, and databases,
government documents and digitization services. Provide instructional
and reference services by teaching online courses and assuming regular
assignments at the reference desk; Collection development and
maintenance for assigned subject area; Scholarly activity, professional
and community service as required by the university; other duties as
required by library administration.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Master’s degree from accredited library school, or
equivalent library degree required;  Knowledge of library print and
electronic resources required; Interest in teaching college level
courses required; distance education experience preferred;  Strong oral
and written communication skills; Preference given to proficiency with
online library systems, two or more years of full-time experience in an
academic library cataloging position, teaching experience, and previous
successful supervisory experience; Knowledge of library print and
electronic resources required; Excellent organizational, interpersonal
and communication skills; Ability to adapt to continually changing
circumstances;  Evidence of potential for earning tenure and promotion. 
A second masters or doctorate is required for full professor status;
Ability to work harmoniously with students, university faculty, staff,
and administration.

POSITION INFORMATION:  9 month tenure-track appointment. 
Salary:$45,000+ DOE. Desired starting date:  August 16, 2012.  For
